About the ASRS
The Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Symptom Checklist was developed in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO). The 6-item screener (Part A) was identified through research as the most predictive subset of the full 18-item ASRS.
The ASRS is based on the diagnostic criteria for ADHD outlined in the DSM-IV-TR, adapted for adult symptom presentation. Adults with ADHD often experience symptoms differently than children — for example, hyperactivity may manifest as restlessness or difficulty relaxing rather than overt physical overactivity.
Research has demonstrated that the 6-item ASRS screener has strong sensitivity and specificity for adult ADHD. A score of 4 or more shaded responses (high-frequency answers) in Part A indicates that symptoms are highly consistent with ADHD and warrants further clinical evaluation.
