Frequently Asked Questions

What is bilateral music?

Bilateral music is audio that alternates between the left and right ear in time with a steady beat. The back-and-forth stereo motion mimics the bilateral stimulation used in EMDR therapy and is often used for calming, focus, or trauma reprocessing practice.

Do I need headphones for bilateral music?

Yes — headphones or earbuds are essential. The stereo panning effect is what produces the bilateral stimulation; speakers will blur the left/right separation.

What kind of music works best?

Calm, instrumental music with a steady tempo works best. We include four free preset tracks (Soft Rain, Deep Ocean, Calm Drone, Forest Wind) so you can start instantly — or upload your own ambient pad, soft piano, or solfeggio frequency track.

Is bilateral music the same as binaural beats?

No. Binaural beats play slightly different frequencies in each ear to create a perceived third tone. Bilateral music plays the same audio but alternates which ear hears it. Both are calming, but only bilateral music mimics EMDR-style stimulation.

How long should I listen for?

10–30 minutes is typical. Shorter sessions (5–10 min) work well for grounding and calming; longer sessions can support reprocessing work alongside a therapist.

Is the audio uploaded anywhere?

No. Files you select stay entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to our server.
