Teletherapy

Teletherapy in New York — Online Therapy That Takes Insurance

Secure, HIPAA-compliant online therapy with licensed New York clinicians — the same therapists, the same outcomes, from your couch.

Telehealth is no longer a workaround — research consistently shows online therapy is as effective as in-person for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and most common conditions. Crown Counseling's teletherapy is delivered by the same licensed clinicians you'd see in our Brooklyn office, on a secure HIPAA-compliant video platform, with the same insurance coverage.

This may be a good fit if…

  • Anyone physically located in New York State
  • Busy schedules — lunch breaks, early mornings, evenings
  • Parents who can't easily get a sitter
  • Clients in rural or upstate NY with few local options
  • People with chronic illness, mobility, or anxiety barriers to leaving home
  • Anyone who simply prefers therapy from a familiar, private space

Same Therapy, Different Delivery

All major modalities work well via video — CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, couples therapy, child therapy with parent involvement. The therapeutic relationship is what drives outcomes, and that translates fully online.

How Sessions Work

You get a private link before each session. No downloads, no accounts. Sessions are 50 minutes (45 for kids, 80 for EMDR or couples intensives). You'll need a quiet, private space, decent internet, and headphones.

EMDR & Trauma Work via Telehealth

We deliver full EMDR protocols via video using on-screen bilateral stimulation, our own free online tools, or self-administered tapping. Outcomes match in-person delivery in research and in our own caseload.

Statewide Coverage

We see clients in all 62 New York counties — from Brooklyn and Manhattan to Buffalo, Rochester, the Capital Region, the Hudson Valley, Long Island, and the North Country. NY licensing requires the client to be physically in NY at session time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is online therapy actually as effective as in-person?

Yes — dozens of studies and meta-analyses (including for PTSD, depression, anxiety, and OCD) show telehealth outcomes match in-person. The active ingredient in therapy is the therapeutic relationship, which translates fully via video.

Is teletherapy covered by insurance?

Yes. New York State requires parity — insurance plans must cover telehealth at the same rate as in-person. We're in-network for telehealth on Aetna, Cigna, BCBS, Healthfirst, MetroPlus, Fidelis, Oxford, Medicare, and more.

What if I'm traveling out of NY for a session?

New York licensing requires you to be physically in NY at session time. For short trips, we reschedule. If you're moving out of state long-term, we'll help you transfer to a licensed provider in your new state.

Do you offer texting or app-based therapy?

No — we offer live video sessions with the same licensed clinician each week. Research on text-only therapy shows it underperforms live therapy for most conditions, and it's not how we want to practice.

Is this covered by insurance?

Yes — Crown Counseling is in-network with Aetna, Cigna / Evernorth, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Anthem BCBS, Healthfirst, MetroPlus, Fidelis, Oxford / Oscar, Northwell Health, and Medicare. Many clients pay $0–$35 per session after benefits are verified. We confirm your specific copay before your first appointment.

How soon can I get started?

Most new clients are seen within 3–7 days. After you submit the intake form, our care coordinator calls within one business day to verify your insurance, answer questions, and book your first session at a time that works for you.
